Introduction of SSV

The Super Safety Valve is a Fail Safe Safety Valve for testing from a land or jack-up rig. It is normally run inside or below the Blow Out Preventer (BOP) and is used to control well flow. Its ID is 3.0 in., OD is 8.0 in., and its working pressure is 15,000 psi.

The valve contains a new ball mechanism and the capability to cut coiled tubing. During the design and testing of the 15K Super Safety Valve, a new high pressure plug assembly was qualified for 15000 psi. This plug seals with a metal-to-metal seal and an O-ring backup seal. In addition, a new high pressure connector was qualified for15000 psi. This connector seals with a metal-to-metal seal, and is a direct connection to a hose using a 3/8" medium pressure female swivel.
